Photo of the Day: Eye of the Photographer

The other day, I was lamenting the fact that I don't have anyone who really is willing to let me photograph them. My family has an aversion to having cameras pointed at their faces which is almost as strong as my own, and my friends are in the middle of finals, work, and familial responsibilities.

Because of this, I've been reduced to attempting (really bad) self-portraits and photographing things around me, which (while often very nice) doesn't always fit my mood.

Today, I got around that with the above photograph. I took my good old Argus tripod, and dressed gramps up in frills for a few photos. Most of them came out rather unpleasant (too many of the tricks of how the rig was jimmied together showing), but this one struck me as being quite fun.

Because the focus is on the camera lens, if you don't look at it closely, it almost looks like a girl in lolita holding a camera. When you start to actually examine things, you realize there are no hands, and that you can see the column of the tripod rising from the blouse collar.

Like I said, kind of fun!
